Dendrobates Fantasticus

Dendrobates fantasticus is found in Peru and is considered an advanced thumbnail species, i.e. one that requires experience in the hobby to maintain.  The major form found in the US hobby is called the 'standard' form and shows the crown headed appearance commonly seen in photographs.  Our standard fants came from Phil Tan.  While standard fants are traditionally considered to be quite shy and skittish, our fant group is actually fairly outgoing and is seen out and about in the vivarium on a daily basis.  They are lightning fast however and individuals working with them should be on guard for escapes when opening the vivarium.  Our standard fants have started breeding but so far we have only obtained infertile eggs.  At present our standard fant group is housed in a 37 gallon high vivarium.
More recently we have come into possession of a young group of yellow fantasticus courtesy of Jon Werner.  So far they are still in quarantine but are growing actively.
