Phyllobates aurotenia
Phyllobates aurotenia is a medium size frog found in Columbia. They are primarily terrestial frogs although they will climb up into the vegetation in the vivarium. They have an interesting trilling call. We received our green aurotenia from Aaron Handzlik and they have proven to be fairly bold. In contrast, the gold/orange form that was obtained from Paul Davis at the 2006 Northwest Frog Fest have been fairly shy so far. Both morphs are housed in 29 gallon standard vivariums. For some reason aurotenia are somewhat challenging to photograph as they have this 'melted' look to them in photos. The colors and lines are much cleaner in real life. We will be posting more on these interesting frogs as they start breeding.
